Help the Alabama tornado recovery relief effort
As you may know, my family lives in Alabama. While all our friends and family made it through the storm with no damage (but many are still without power), many areas of the state have been devastated. (See Shea Conner's blog for more information about the storm.)
The best way to help is to donate to the Red Cross. You can do this via their website, and you can text REDCROSS to 90999 to have a $10 donation added to your phone bill.
Toomer’s for Tuscaloosa is also maintaining a list of donation drop-off points in other U.S. states. I can tell you right now bottled water and personal hygiene items, as well as non-perishable food that doesn’t have to be cooked, is in high demand.
My husband and I shopped at Publix today (which was the first grocery store in our town to reopen…the night of the storms before they had power!), and they asked us if we wanted to make a donation to Red Cross tornado recovery relief. We added it right to our total. If you shop at Publix, ask them if they are accepting donations as well.
Thanks to everyone for checking on us and making sure we were okay. We were very lucky.
