My Musical Inspiration for "Realize"
There's always some discussion among authors about how we come up with our story ideas. For me, I get a lot of ideas while listening to music. A song or even just a line in a song will set off a chain of thought that leads to a new story.
For "Realize," the plot came to me while listening to the radio on the way to work. The song I heard? "Realize" by Colbie Calliat:
I kept thinking about unrequited love, about waiting for that person to just look at you and have that moment of clarity that tells them you're the one. Then I thought, "But what if the person with the unrequited love is really the clueless one? What if he just can't see what's right in front of him?"
I thought about naming the story something else, but, when it came right down to it, "Realize" seemed the only fitting choice. Every time I heard the song now, I think about my guys and smile.
