Characters on Strike
|At first their protests were a little vague and disorganized.|
I love the guys in my NaNo story, really I do. Sean, Tyler, and Jamie are all great guys.
When they're not being whiny bitches.
This week, the guys went on strike. I couldn't get a decent word out of the lot of them. I was having to drag them kicking and screaming from scene to scene.
Then I realized the problem. Should I really be dragging them were I want them to go, or should I be following their lead?
So I spent a day or two trying to figure out exactly what the hell it was they wanted from me. Apparently they wanted a completely rewritten outline for the last two-thirds of the book. I figured I'd better listen before they started asking for overtime pay and better benefits.
Now I have a shiny revised outline and three really happy but still fairly odd voices inside my head. The jury's still out on whether this will all lead to an awesome book or a diagnosis of schizophrenia.
Current NaNo status:
Story: 6.5 chapters (10.5 to go)
Meds for the voices: Large quantities of chocolate (stipulated in their new contract)
I may be 5K words behind schedule, but I've got a kick-ass NaNo theme song:
